HREG in the Community: The Green Chair Project 2019

Earlier this year, we had another opportunity to sponsor an apartment with The Green Chair Project through the REALTOR® Foundation of Wake County– the charity arm of our local association of REALTORS®.

I (Renne Hillman) am lucky to sit on the board of the REALTOR® Foundation of Wake County and I am able to see first hand all the awesome work this organization does within our community. Most of the great things they are doing fly under the radar so I am excited to have the chance to highlight one of the projects they help with here on the HREG blog.

One of my favorite examples? Partnering with The Green Chair Project & CASA to provide furnishings for and locate an available apartment for someone who is in need. After these critical steps are tackled is when we get to step in, along with a little help from our friends…

Thanks to Stephanie and Mike

Like we have done in the past, we reached out to one of our preferred lenders, Stephanie Davis, and we were delighted that she and her team lead Steven Livesay were available to co-sponsor this project with us. We appreciate so much that they are always willing to jump in and help both financially and with time! We could not do it without them.

The Green Chair Project

The Green Chair Project reuses donated household furnishings to renew lives of participants referred from area programs who are recovering from homelessness, crisis, or disaster. We shop at the Green Chair Project’s donation center and retail warehouse/showroom near Downtown Raleigh for home items and then help get the apartment set up.

We always love this service project and look forward to helping out as often as we can. It is usually a bit challenging when we take these apartment projects on as we have a limited shopping scope at The Green Chair Project, however, we felt this one turned out fabulous for the mom and kids that will soon get to call this new space “home”!

That important concept of “home” is such an important part of what we are able to do on a daily basis for our clients, so it is a nice way to for us to be able to give back to those that are in a transition time period. We hope that this small act helps our community.

How You Can Help

There are so many ways that you, your business, or your organization can get involved with The Green Chair Project and help further their mission. The simplest? Donate your household furnishings and accessories that you’re no longer making good use of – there’s definitely someone in need who will appreciate them.

You can also donate financially by sponsoring a project or making a small cash donation. And there’s always the hands-on donation of your time. Check out all the ways you can volunteer here!

Love to shop? There’s even a way that you can shop and support at the same time! TGC hosts fundraisers and tag sales several times a year… be sure to follow their latest event announcements on their website.
