HREG in the Community: The Green Chair Project

Earlier this year, we had the opportunity to sponsor an apartment with The Green Chair Project through the REALTOR® Foundation of Wake County – the charity arm of our local association of REALTORS®. We reached out to one of our preferred lenders, Stephanie Davis, and we were delighted that she and her team lead, Steven Livesay, were available to co-sponsor this project with us!

The Green Chair Project

The Green Chair Project reuses donated household furnishings to renew lives of participants referred from area programs who are recovering from homelessness, crisis, or disaster.

It is actually a pretty elaborate network of folks – in this instance, we shopped at the Green Chair Project’s donation center and retail warehouse/showroom near Downtown Raleigh, then movers were coordinated to move the big furniture pieces, we took care of transporting the accessories and all the set up.

We worked with another Raleigh-area non-profit, SouthLight Healthcare, who helps recovering addicts with children to reclaim their life, so to speak. It is a nine-month program, which can be extended to 12, and has been a great resource for local families in need since 1970.

Renee’s Take

For me, I felt that it was a humbling experience to be able to provide help in such a tangible way to our community.  I was also pretty impressed with the coordination efforts  and how everything came together! This was definitely a great team building experience and I am even happier that we could partner with our trusted partners to pull off such a worthwhile project that we know will make a big impact for the family who now calls this apartment “home”. We hope our help created a fresh start for a family in need and our creative touches made this feel like a sanctuary for them.

How You Can Help

There are so many ways that you, your business, or your organization can get involved with The Green Chair Project and help further their mission. The simplest? Donate your household furnishings and accessories that you’re no longer making good use of – there’s definitely someone in need who will appreciate them.

You can also donate financially by sponsoring a project or making a small cash donation. And there’s always the hands-on donation of your time. Check out all the ways you can volunteer here!

Love to shop? There’s even a way that you can shop and support at the same time! TGC hosts fundraisers and tag sales several times a year… be sure to follow their latest event announcements on their website.

Thanks to Stephanie and Mike!
