2024 Design Trends: A Showcase of Style at the Parade of Homes
We look forward to the Triangle Parade of Homes every year, and 2024 was truly one for the books! This year’s event spanned three weekends: Sept. 28-29, 2024, Oct. 4-6, 2024, and Oct. 11-13, 2024.
If you’re unfamiliar, the Parade of Homes is an annual, free, self-guided tour open to the public, offering a fantastic opportunity to explore the newest homes and communities across the Triangle. While our team loves seeing the latest homes for sale, we’re especially excited to discover the newest trends in home design, floor plans, decor, landscaping, and technology.
Many homes on the tour are already sold or under contract, making this event an exclusive chance to see them up close. It’s an inspiring, creative atmosphere that keeps us at the top of our game—so we can help you design or find the home of your dreams.
Without further ado, here’s a look at some of the design trends we loved from this year’s tour!
Bright Ideas
Lighting truly stole the spotlight this year, with bold fixtures making a statement in homes throughout the Parade. From dark, moody string lights to oversized wicker chandeliers, the variety was impressive. Lighting plays a pivotal role in setting the ambiance, impacting both the mood and overall aesthetic of a space.
One trend that stood out was textured lighting fixtures—adding depth and interest through different materials and finishes. Unique shapes and sizes also made a big impact, showing that lighting is not just functional but a key design element for creating a visually stunning room.
Cheers to Entertaining
There’s nothing quite like entertaining at home, which is why we love a great wet bar. A well-designed wet bar can become the heart of any gathering, offering guests everything from cocktails and wine to beer and nonalcoholic drinks. Not only are wet bars functional, but they also make a stylish accent piece in any home.
Backlighting enhances the atmosphere, while playing with different cabinet colors and wallpaper allows you to create a space that draws people in. Whether you’re serving wine, beer, cocktails, or soda, having a wet bar makes entertaining effortless and elevates your home’s social vibe.
In addition to wet bars, sculleries are a fantastic addition to any home, offering a discreet and functional space to manage food prep, dishwashing, and storage while keeping the main kitchen area clean and presentable. They allow hosts to maintain a seamless, clutter-free atmosphere for guests while staying organized behind the scenes. With features like additional sinks, countertops, and even appliances, sculleries ensure entertaining is both stylish and stress-free.
Bring the Spa Home
Bathrooms have become true design showcases, featuring everything from statement tile to bold lighting and whimsical floor tiles. Large showers with luxurious spa-like features are a standout, offering both style and relaxation. Wallpaper is making a strong comeback, adding personality and flair to these spaces. One trend we love is backlit mirrors, which not only serve as a sleek design element but also provide essential, even lighting. In a space where proper illumination is key, backlit mirrors help prevent harsh shadows, making them both a functional and aesthetic must-have.
A Space to Make You Enjoy Laundry: Trending Laundry Room Designs
Laundry rooms are no longer just utilitarian spaces—they’re becoming stylish, functional retreats that make the chore of washing clothes a little more enjoyable. From vibrant backsplashes and patterned tiles to sleek cabinetry with plenty of storage, today’s laundry rooms are designed to be as beautiful as they are practical. Smart features like built-in hampers, drying racks, and countertops for folding keep things organized, while bold wallpaper and colorful accents turn the space into a bright, inviting part of the home. With these trends, doing laundry might just become your new favorite task!
Cozy Meets Chic: Bedroom Trends to Love
Bedrooms are embracing a blend of comfort and style with some of the latest design trends. Large windows are a favorite feature, flooding the space with natural light and offering a serene connection to the outdoors. Textured wallpaper is also making waves, adding depth and a touch of luxury to the walls. When it comes to lighting, it’s all about layering—think soft bedside lamps paired with statement fixtures that enhance both mood and function. Together, these elements create a cozy, stylish retreat that feels like the perfect escape.
Backyard Bliss: Elevating Outdoor Spaces with Built-In Grills, Pools, and More
Outdoor spaces are being transformed into true extensions of the home, with built-in grills and sparkling pools creating the perfect setting for both relaxation and entertainment. Al fresco dining areas bring the joy of gathering outdoors, making every meal feel like a special occasion. For those with a love of design and convenience, stacked car garages are a growing trend, maximizing space and adding a sleek, modern touch to any property. With these features, your backyard becomes a luxurious, multifunctional retreat for both entertaining and everyday living.
