HREG in the Community: Furnishing Our Seventh Apartment With the REALTOR® Giving Network
Several times throughout the year, our team gets out of the office and into our community to share time together putting our hands to work for those who need it the most. We take special effort to pick a few organizations close to our hearts and really chip in both financially and physically multiple times throughout the year to help give back to the community that has supported us for so long.

For this project, we volunteered with The Carying Place. This is work done in conjunction with the REALTOR® Giving Network, which our team leader Renée is a former board member of, and as a result, always is happy to rally the HREG team to support Executive Director Heather Thompson’s work in creating these opportunities. In short, we sponsor the apartment on behalf of the RRAR REALTOR® Giving Network then they liaison with different organizations (like The Carying Place), movers, etc. to make it as seamless as possible. This is the SEVENTH apartment we have furnished with them and it is always such a heart-warming experience.

(Bonus: We also get to do this with great vendor partners, too, like Steve and Stephanie, two of our long-time, go-to, fabulous lenders from Prime Lending.)
Fun Fact From Renee: “Aaron and I donated a black desk lamp to the Green Chair Project a few weeks ago. The Green Chair Project provided the furnishings for this apartment and the lamp I donated was one of the items they brought for us to use in the apartment. I am so excited that it ended up in the boy’s room!”
Thank you for your support so we are able to support amazing causes like this one!
More About The Carying Place
The Carying Place teaches homeless, working families with children, life skills for attaining independent living while providing short-term housing and support services to address their individual needs. As a non-profit transitional housing program in Wake County, TCP supports families in their journey to independence and self-sufficiency. This is achieved through the mentoring and guidance of Support Partners and staff. Families are paired with a volunteer team of Support Partners that provide weekly guidance in managing personal finances, setting attainable goals, seeking permanent affordable housing, and maintaining their employment. Over a 16-week period, these families learn about the skills required for self-sufficiency through mandatory once-a-week meetings with Support Partners at a local church.
With the acceptance into the program, an apartment is provided to the family for their 16-week participation in the program. The environment is intended to be similar to permanent housing except rent and utilities are paid by TCP. A savings plan is established through an escrow account built on fixed commitments from each paycheck. This money is often used to obtain the permanent housing required upon graduation from the program.
We helped furnish one of the apartments that the families are provided. For every family that is accepted into the program, The Carying Place provides a furnished apartment, rent and utilities, Support Partners, and a children’s program. Learn more and get involved at TheCaryingPlace.com.
