Franklin County NC is located just north of Wake County and is a great option for those looking for a little more space at a lower cost while still having an easy commute to Raleigh, Durham, RTP and other points in the northern half of the triangle. Taxes here are slightly higher than Wake County but property values are less. Franklin County NC is also a great option for first time homebuyers or those with a smaller budget, as homes are more readily available under the $250,000 price point and programs like USDA loans are a possibility. You can also get much more for your dollar here than in some of the more popular areas of the Triangle.
Franklin County NC gets a bad wrap as being too rural and too far from Raleigh & RTP but in fact it’s just 20-30 minutes to points across north Raleigh and Durham and only 45 minutes to RTP and Cary, a trade off to the traffic of the more popular areas of Cary, Apex, and Fuquay.
Franklin County NC has three main cities: Louisburg, Franklinton, & Youngsville. Youngsville with it’s close proximity to Wake Forest and Raleigh has seen a rejuvination and boom of new construction. Franklinton is an up and coming town which has just begun to see a flurry of new construction and development. Franklinton also is very community focused with many community events throughout the year. Louisburg is the farthest from Raleigh, however still just a quick trip down 401 to the heart of Raleigh.
